Smodin.io offers a suite of AI writing tools such as AI writing, Rewriting, Grading, Plagiarism Detection, and more. Despite the seeming ease of use, I struggled to generate the paper I needed. The generated essays are too short and have a high level of plagiarism and AI detection, which calls into question the advisability of using this tool. The icing on the cake is the high monthly price, which allows you to generate only 20 essays.

Experience
Despite the seemingly straightforward registration process, I couldn’t get registered on my first attempt. The issue arose with email confirmation, and I couldn’t verify my account. When I tried to resend the email, I got an error message – ‘Too many requests.’ After about 15 minutes, the email finally came through.
One of the benefits of Smodin.io is the language selection for essay generation. This can be useful for students studying in other languages.
For my essay, I chose the Supercharge option, which, according to the tool’s creators, uses an AI model that’s 10 times bigger than the default one. I also enabled the Add Facts and Sources option.
Unfortunately, when filling in the information for generation, there’s no option to specify the length of the paper, the number of references, or the reference style. This significantly limits the capabilities of this tool. For instance, for my essay, I needed to use references from the book I’m analyzing, and there’s nowhere to specify this information.
When generating an essay, you can choose either the straightforward Generate Essay option or the more complex Improve Title followed by Edit Outline. The latter option is more flexible and provides more opportunities. If you have a detailed outline, you can input it in the second step, and then the essay will better match your instructions.
The generated essay turned out quite short. Although I consistently requested 5 paragraphs, the essay typically contained 3 or 4 paragraphs. There’s no option to download the essay in Word format; instead, there’s a quite weird option to download the essay as an HTML file.
What Smodin.io really excels at is generating and inserting references. There are questions about the choice of resources and their credibility, but it’s still better than most of its competitors.
Despite the seemingly sufficient simplicity of the essay generation process, I didn’t immediately succeed in generating what I needed. Also, there’s no opportunity to specify important details about your work, which greatly complicates the generation process.

Quality
No matter how many times I attempted to generate an essay, I couldn’t get one that met my specific instructions. Specifically, a five-page literary analysis of ‘The House on Mango Street’ with two references to the book and a comparison of the main character with other women.
The essays always turned out too short, didn’t sufficiently address the topic, and had incorrect references. Perhaps school essays on generic topics would yield better results.
As for plagiarism, I checked the work with Turnitin and got the following results:
- Similarity Index: 41%
- AI: 100%
The generated essay failed not only the AI detection check but also the usual plagiarism check. Even if the essay met all your requirements, it should definitely not be submitted to your professor.

There’s an option to purchase additional credits: 100 credits cost $9, 250 credits cost $19, and 1,000 credits cost $49. You also have the option to buy an annual subscription for $288.
